CBRN, NBC, and CBA-RCA are all ratings that are used to describe the ability of protective equipment to protect against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) hazards. CBRN is the most general term and is used to refer to all types of protective equipment that can be used to protect against these types of hazards. NBC stands for nuclear, biological, and chemical and is used to refer to protective equipment that can protect against these specific types of hazards. CBA-RCA stands for chemical, biological, and riot control agents’ protective equipment and is used to refer to protective equipment that can protect against these specific types of hazards. In general, protective equipment with a CBRN rating is the most versatile and can protect against the broadest range of hazards, while equipment with an NBC or CBA-RCA rating is designed to protect against a specific subset of CBRN hazards. CBA-RCA protective equipment and systems are designed to protect against chemical and biological agents, as well as riot control agents. These systems typically include filters that are capable of removing a wide range of chemical agents, biological agents, but the most common use is for riot control agents – such as tear gas, smoke grenades, or CS gas.

Specific characteristics of CBRN, NBC, or CBA-RCA

In addition, a CBRN-rated gas mask typically has a durable and long-lasting design to ensure that it can provide effective protection in the event of a CBRN incident.
